Seedr
Privacy policy
Last updated 15 October 2026
Draft: pending legal review and confirmation of the company details below.
Seedr is a networking app for South African entrepreneurs. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). It forms part of our terms of use.
1. Who we are
Seedr is operated by [Company legal name, e.g. FUTR Agency (Pty) Ltd] (registration number [Company registration number]), [Physical address] (“Seedr”, “we”). Our Information Officer is [Information Officer name], reachable at [privacy@yourdomain].
2. Information we collect
From you, when you use Seedr
- Account: your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time code.
- Your card: what you choose to put on it, such as your name, role, company, phone, email, website and social links, bio, photo, logo, intro video link and documents. Your card is public to anyone with its link or QR code.
- Sign-up answers: your role, industry, business size, what you want from networking, where and how often you network, your biggest networking challenge, your province and how you heard about Seedr. These are private: they never appear on your card, and our team only looks at them as totals across all members.
- Contacts you add: details of people you meet, such as their name, company, number, email, where you met and your private notes.
- Activity: follow-ups you send through Seedr, introductions, quests, leagues, competition points and event briefs.
- Device: a push notification token if you allow notifications.
From people who use a Seedr card
- If you send your details to someone through their Seedr card, we store what you enter (name, contact details, company, role and message) in that person's contacts, with your consent.
- Card visits are counted anonymously: we record that a card was viewed or a button was tapped, where the visit came from (QR code, link or NFC) and whether it was a phone or a computer. We do not store IP addresses, cookies or anything that identifies the visitor.
3. Contacts you save
You decide who to add to your contacts and why. For those contacts, you are responsible for having a lawful reason to keep their details and to contact them, and Seedr processes them on your behalf to provide the service. We never use your contacts for our own marketing, never sell them, and our administrators cannot view them.
Follow-up messages are sent from your own WhatsApp, email or messaging app. Seedr does not send messages to your contacts for you.
4. Why we use your information
- To run your account, card and contacts, and to sign you in.
- To send reminders and notifications you've allowed.
- To draft messages and event briefs with AI when you ask for them.
- To run leagues and competitions, including verifying winners.
- To keep Seedr secure and prevent abuse.
- To understand, in aggregate, how Seedr is used so we can improve it.
- To tailor Seedr to how you network, and to understand our members as a group (for example, which industries and regions we serve).
We rely on the contract with you to provide the service, your consent where we ask for it (for example notifications, the public leaderboard and sending details through a card), and our legitimate interest in keeping Seedr secure.
5. Who we share it with
We use these service providers to run Seedr. They only process information to provide their service to us.
- Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage (servers in London, United Kingdom).
- Vercel: website and app server (London, United Kingdom).
- Anthropic: AI that drafts your messages and event briefs (United States). When you ask for a draft, we send your card details and the relevant contact's name, role, company, notes and where you met.
- Resend: sign-in code emails (European Union).
- Expo and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: push notifications.
- YouTube, Vimeo, Loom or TikTok: only when a visitor chooses to play an intro video on a card.
Some of these providers are outside South Africa. We only transfer information to countries with adequate data protection laws or under agreements that protect it, as POPIA requires.
We do not sell personal information. We may disclose it if the law requires us to.
6. Public information
- Your card is public to anyone with its link.
- Your name, business and photo appear on the public competition leaderboard only if you turn on “Show me on the public leaderboard”. Otherwise you appear as “A Seedr member”.
7. How long we keep it
- We keep your account information until you delete your account.
- When you delete your account, we delete your profile, card, contacts, notes, files and activity immediately from our live systems. Backups are kept for a limited period and then overwritten.
- Competition winner records are kept for three years, as the Consumer Protection Act requires.
- Anonymous card analytics contain no personal information.
8. Security
Information is encrypted in transit, access is restricted by account, and every administrator action is recorded in an audit log. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
9. Your rights
- Access the information we hold about you, and correct it (most of it you can edit in the app).
- Delete your account at any time: in the app under My card, Delete my account, or on the web at Delete your account.
- Object to processing or withdraw consent (for example, turn off notifications or the public leaderboard).
- If someone saved your details in their Seedr contacts and you want them removed, ask that person, or contact us and we will help.
- Complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
10. Children
Seedr is for people aged 18 and over.
11. Changes
We will post changes to this policy here and tell you in the app about significant changes.
12. Contact
